How To Make Cake Pops In A Silicone Mold?

Making Cake Pops in a Silicone Mold
So you want to make cake pops in a silicone mold. But you've never made them before?

Step #1: Preparing Ingredients
For The Cake Pop Batter:
- 5 oz. (144 g) flavored cake mix (most preferably vanilla or strawberry because they have a sweet taste that works well in combination with the mild sourness of gelatin).
- 1 egg
- 2 1/2 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup water
- Chocolate (around 200 grams)
Tools You Need:
- Silicone Mold
- 20 Cavity Rolicone Silicone Mold
- Hand Mixer
- Piping Bag
- Treat Sticks
- Cake Pop Display Stand (optional)
Note: This recipe uses 1/3 of a box of cake mix, and with that comes 20 pops. Whereas, a full box of cake mix can make 60 pops.
Step #2: Preheat The Oven
Preheating your oven for baking is important if you want to make sure that your cake pops to come out as evenly baked as possible. It's generally recommended to set the temperature at 350°F.
Note: If you don't already have an oven thermometer, it's a good idea to invest in one. An oven thermometer will tell you exactly what temperature your oven is set at—and it's important because different temperatures mean different things for baking.
Step #3: Whisk Together The Cake Pop Batter Ingredients
Once your ingredients have been measured out, mix them with a hand mixer or whisk until they're combined evenly. And there are no lumps of flour left in the batter.
You want the batter to be thick enough so that it holds its shape when you drop it into a cupcake pan or mold. But not so thick that it sets up like concrete.
Tip: If the batter is too thick, add some more water or milk to adjust the consistency. If it's too runny, add more cake pop mix to thicken it up.
Step #4: Grease The Cake Pop Mold
Greasing your cake pop mold is essential for getting the best results from your treats. Oil ensures that the baked candy has a better bond with the mold and doesn't stick together as easily, which means you'll be able to get your treats out of the molds without breaking them apart.
This also makes it easier for you to remove each cake pop from its mold without breaking any of them apart.
In addition, oil acts as a barrier between the product and any moisture in the air. If there are any gaps between the top and bottom mold pieces, they can act as an escape route for moisture, which could cause your cake pops to become soggy or even start to melt on the spot.
Greasing both sides of the mold will prevent this from happening, ensuring that all of your cake pops will come out fresh and ready for consumption.
Step #5: Fill Cake Pop Mold Cavities with the Cake Pop Batter
To fill the cavities of the cake pop mold, you can use a pastry bag or Ziploc bag with a corner cut-off and filled with cake pop batter.
You'll need to leave 1mm between the surface of the batter and the top edge of the mold so that your cake pops don't touch the top closing mold's surface if they over-inflate while baking.
Gently tap the mold on a countertop to get rid of air bubbles and to make sure that all of the batter is in place.
In the end, cover with the top mold and press securely with the bottle mold to ensure that your cake pops are sealed.
Step #6: Bake the Cake Pops
The process of baking cake pops in a silicone mold is pretty straightforward. You should begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. And then place the cake pop pan in there for 20 minutes.
The best way to check if your cake pops are properly baked is to stick a toothpick through a hole in the mold. No need to open the mold to check again and again. If the toothpick comes out clean, then they're done.
Remove from oven. And let cool for 5 minutes before opening up the silicone mold. That way, you'll make sure that any moisture inside has time to dissipate and stop your cake balls from popping out prematurely.
Open the silicone mold by inserting a knife into the center of it and twisting it counterclockwise. Let cool for another 5 to 10 minutes before removing the cake balls from the mold.
Step #7: Attaching Cake Pops on Treat Sticks
Prepare your cake pops by dipping one end of each cake pop stick into melted chocolate. This is to make sure that the cake pop firmly gets attached to the stick and does not slip off.
Then insert the stick into the cake pop, allowing it to rest on top of the chocolate. Repeat with the other sticks and place them in a stand or tray that will allow them to harden while they refrigerate. We suggest refrigerating your pops for 30 minutes before decorating them.
Step #8: Coating & Decorating The Cake Pops
Coating and decorating cake pops are a fun way to get creative with your desserts.
First, melt chocolate for coating. This can be done in several different ways: in a microwave, on the stovetop, or in a container placed over a pan of simmering water (or your favorite method). Just keep an eye on it so that it doesn't burn.
Once your chocolate is melted and smooth enough to coat your cake pops with no problems, you'll want to coat them with that melted chocolate. You can do this by either brushing, pouring on your chocolate, or dipping the cake pops directly inside the melted chocolate.
While the chocolate coating is wet over the cake pops, shower sprinkles over the pops.
Some best sprinkles for coating cake pops include colored sanding sugar and starlight sprinkles (available at most craft stores). If you've got a bunch of different kinds, it's okay to mix and match according to your tastes. Just try not to get too crazy with it—you don't want your cake pops tasting too much like your sprinkles. You also don't want them to be too sweet either, so if something is too sweet, it will overpower the other flavors in your cake pop.
Step #9: Let The Cake Pops Rest
Let the cake pops sit on a cake pop stand. And let the coating harden at room temperature.
If you don't have a cake pop stand, you can substitute it with a cardboard egg carton (i.e poke holes in the egg carton to use as a stand). OR you can stand the cake pops in a vertical glass.
